During a nearly 30-year career as a newspaper editor and publisher, Mark A. Stevens, a former MyCarolinaLife.com writer, oversaw award-winning weekly and daily newspapers in Tennessee, Louisiana and South Carolina. In 2004, Washington, D.C.-based Presstime Magazine named him one of the top newspaper executives in the nation. He has personally won numerous top awards for news, features, column and editorial writing and oversaw newsrooms that set state records for journalistic excellence and routinely were named the best in their states. In 2009, East Tennessee State University named him to the Department of Communication Hall of Fame. He is also a published author of several books, including an Amazon top seller, "The Clinchfield No. 1: Tennessee's Legendary Steam Engine."
